The Taraba State Government says the it has recorded its highest-ever performance in the ongoing measles-rubella integrated vaccination campaign, surpassing all set targets across multiple immunization categories.
The Director of Immunization and Disease Control at the Taraba State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (TSPHCDA), Tijo Dingeh, disclosed this in Jalingo, attributing the achievement to massive mobilization, sensitization, and strong stakeholder collaboration.
According to him, the high level of acceptance witnessed during the exercise was unprecedented, with caregivers, schools, and religious institutions actively requesting vaccination teams to immunize eligible children.
“For the first time, we saw caregivers calling our teams to vaccinate their wards. Schools and places of worship reached out to us for vaccinations. This level of enthusiasm and compliance is remarkable,” Dingeh said.
He revealed that over 1.7 million children were vaccinated against measles in the state, while more than 15,000 girls received the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. Additionally, over 900,000 children were immunized against polio, far exceeding the agency’s initial targets.
Dingeh noted that the overwhelming response even led to temporary vaccine shortages, highlighting the success of the campaign.
“With our trained personnel and strong community cooperation, we are confident of sustaining this progress in future campaigns,” he added.
He commended the state government for its continued support and assured that the agency would maintain the momentum in the next round of immunization scheduled for December 1.
