

FCT Police have arrested twelve suspects in connection with the armed robbery that resulted in the deaths of ARISE News anchor Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu and the security guard Barnabas Danlabi in Abuja on September 29.
The arrests were made by the Scorpion Squad, who recovered weapons and the victims’ stolen phones, with the suspects confessing to the murder.
In another development, the World Bank in its Nigeria Development Update report warned that 139 million Nigerians now live in poverty, despite the Federal Government’s economic reforms boosting revenue.
While commending reforms like the exchange rate and fuel subsidy removal, Country Director Mathew Verghis noted that high food inflation continues to erode purchasing power, slowing economic recovery. It comes as the Presidency disputed the World Bank report, dismissing the figure as “unrealistic” and detached from the country’s economic realities.
