Terror returned to Zamfara State on Sunday when suspected terrorists attacked a mosque in Gidan Turbe village, Tsafe Local Government Area, abducting around 40 worshippers during early morning prayers.
The gunmen, who struck at about 5:30 a.m., reportedly surrounded the mosque as prayers were in progress before herding the captives into the dense forests along the Gohori axis.
Witnesses described the assault as swift and coordinated, leaving the community reeling in fear and disbelief.
The incident comes at a delicate moment, as fragile peace efforts between local leaders and armed groups seek to reduce violence during the farming season. Residents now fear that the abduction could undermine those negotiations and escalate insecurity in the region.
