Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been honoured as the National Team of the Year at the 2025 CAF Awards, reaffirming their dominance in African women’s football.
The achievement comes months after head coach Justine Madugu guided the team to a landmark 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in August 2024 – a record that further cements their place at the top of the continent. In a pulsating final, the nine-time champions battled from behind to seal a 3-2 victory over hosts Morocco, a win that resonated across the football world.
In securing this prestigious award, the Super Falcons finished ahead of strong contenders: Ghana’s Black Queens and Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses. Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau, stepped forward to accept the honour on behalf of the team.
However, it was not a clean sweep for Nigeria in the women’s categories. Flamingos captain, Shakirat Moshood, fell short in the race for Young Women’s Player of the Year, with Morocco’s Doha El Madani emerging as the winner.
The Super Falcons’ latest recognition further strengthens their reputation as Africa’s most decorated women’s national team and highlights their consistent excellence across major CAF and global football competitions.
