Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has confirmed that Nigeria will be without midfielder Wilfred Ndidi for their 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff final against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Ndidi received a booking in the sixth minute of Nigeria’s 4–1 semi-final triumph over Gabon in Rabat on Thursday night. The yellow card marked his second caution in the qualifying series, rendering him suspended for the crucial final.
“Ndidi is an important player for us. His experience, ability and leadership on the pitch are important for this team. But we will manage the situation. We have a large squad of players and we will make changes,” Chelle told thenff.com.
Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka is expected to step into Ndidi’s role in the starting line-up for Sunday’s high-stakes clash against the Leopards of DR Congo.
