The Super Eagles’ camp in Polokwane is now buzzing with 20 players following the late Wednesday arrivals of Zaidu Sanusi and Jerome Akor Adams, who have both joined up with the squad ahead of Nigeria’s must-win 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho.
Sanusi, who plies his trade with FC Porto in Portugal, and Akor, a forward for Montpellier in France’s Ligue 1, immediately took part in the team’s evening training session upon arrival, bringing the group closer to full strength.
Team officials confirmed that Alhassan Yusuf, the Antwerp midfielder based in the United States, is expected to arrive in camp on Thursday to complete the squad.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to hold their final training session on Thursday evening, as preparations intensify for the matchday nine fixture against the Crocodiles of Lesotho, which takes place on Friday at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa.
Nigeria, currently third in Group C behind Benin Republic and South Africa, must secure maximum points to keep their qualification hopes alive. The team will be aiming to recover from a patchy campaign that has seen them struggle to convert dominance into results, with several drawn games leaving them playing catch-up in the group standings.
Friday’s clash presents an opportunity for the Super Eagles to regain momentum and reaffirm their qualification ambitions as they push to book a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
