Nigeria boosted their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Lesotho on Friday evening.
The Super Eagles went into the game in third place on the Group C table with 11 points, trailing South Africa and Benin Republic.
Despite dominating the first half, Eric Chelle’s men were unable to find the breakthrough. Their persistence, however, paid off after the break when Nigeria was awarded a penalty, which captain William Troost-Ekong converted confidently.
Debutant Akor Adams extended the lead with a composed finish, marking his first goal for the national team. Lesotho, however, capitalised on a defensive slip to pull one back late in the game.
The Super Eagles will wrap up their qualifying campaign against Benin Republic on Tuesday in Uyo, where victory could seal their ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
