Sunshine Stars will once again compete at the Ondo State Sports Complex for the 2025–26 Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign, marking a long-awaited homecoming for the Akure-based club.
The Owena Waves last featured at the stadium in 2023 before vacating the facility to allow extensive renovation works to take place. With the refurbishment project now fully completed, the team is cleared to resume matches at their traditional ground ahead of the new league season.
Sunshine Stars are scheduled to host Gateway United in their second NNL match of the campaign on Saturday, a fixture that will officially mark their return to the upgraded venue.
During the previous Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, the club was forced to adopt alternative stadiums, relying on the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode and the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne as temporary home grounds.
The club’s return to their revitalised base is expected to boost fan attendance, strengthen community support, and improve overall performance as they target a successful NNL season.
