Sunshine Queens have secured promotion back to the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) after a successful campaign at the 2025 Championship.
The Owena Whales sealed their return with a 1-0 victory over Kwara Ladies in their final group stage match, finishing with a perfect record of nine points from three games.
Team captain Lolade Akintunde praised the team’s resilience and effort.
“The NWFL qualification is a reward for hard work,” she told the club’s media.
The Akure-based side bounced back strongly after suffering relegation in the 2023/24 NWFL season, marking a swift return to top-flight women’s football in Nigeria.
