Former Nigeria international Sunday Mba has criticised the Super Eagles over their underwhelming performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Nigeria failed to secure an automatic World Cup ticket after finishing behind South Africa in their group, forcing them into the playoffs, where they will face Gabon in November.
Speaking with Super Eagles media team member, Ayo Olu Ibidapo, Mba expressed disappointment over the team’s poor form and lack of consistency.
“I am not impressed with the Super Eagles. If you are a true follower of football in Nigeria, you won’t be happy with what the Super Eagles are doing,” Mba said.
“Let’s not lie or be sentimental. If we had won all our matches, we would not be in this mess now. Imagine the number one team in West Africa struggling for a playoff spot, which we are not even sure of.”
The former midfielder, who famously scored the winning goal in the 2013 AFCON final, urged the team to rediscover their form ahead of the crucial playoff clash.
