A law firm representing Sophia Momodu has cautioned Afrobeats star Davido and his supporters against making public comments that could affect ongoing court proceedings over the custody of their daughter, Imade.
In a statement, Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors criticised social media posts attributed to Davido, which took issue with remarks made in court by the firm’s partner, Ebelechukwu Enedah, who is representing Momodu in the matter.
The firm said the case is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction in Lagos State and stressed that it is sub judice. According to the statement, issues raised in court should be addressed through legal processes rather than on social media platforms.
“Our attention has been drawn to statements chiefly engineered by a Nigerian Afrobeat artiste, via social media, directed at our partner arising from her professional conduct in a custody matter presently pending before a court of competent jurisdiction in Lagos State,” the statement read.
Punuka Attorneys further warned that it would take all lawful steps to protect its counsel and uphold the integrity of judicial proceedings. The firm added that any attempt to intimidate legal practitioners or interfere with the administration of justice would attract legal consequences.
The reaction follows Davido’s public criticism of the mention of his late son during court proceedings, which he described as a “lowest blow.” The singer subsequently announced his decision to withdraw his custody petition, clarifying that he had sought joint custody of Imade and not full custody.
Davido’s withdrawal of the case has generated widespread reactions online, with supporters and critics weighing in on the dispute. However, Momodu’s legal team maintains that the matter should be left to the courts to determine.
