Sophia Momodu, the mother of Davido’s first child, has spoken out against a wave of online posts she says were deliberately crafted to misrepresent the condition and upbringing of her daughter, Imade Adeleke.
In a lengthy Snapchat statement, Sophia dismissed claims that she restricts the 10-year-old’s access to her father. She described the narratives circulating online as false and harmful, noting that she prioritises Imade’s safety and maintains structured visitation arrangements.
According to her, Imade is “happy, healthy and well-rounded,” and anyone who has interacted with the child can confirm this. She added that she has been the primary caregiver for the last five years, personally covering nearly all of Imade’s needs.
Sophia explained that the only financial support Imade has received from the Adeleke family has been school fees, which Davido’s father, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, has paid for the last three years. She stated that she has never received formal child support from Davido himself.
Despite this, she revealed that she recently relinquished all outstanding child support and waived future financial claims, assuming full responsibility for her daughter’s welfare. She said the decision was mutually accepted and allowed for a clearer path forward.
Sophia also stressed that she has never prevented Davido from having a relationship with their child. Instead, she said her focus has always been on ensuring Imade’s routine and security. “Family is important to me,” she wrote, noting that she values balanced parenting and wants her daughter to have meaningful connections with both sides of her family.
She appealed to the public to stop involving her daughter in online controversies. “My innocent child should be left out of false narratives,” she wrote, urging social media users to direct their energy toward more constructive conversations.
As of the time of this report, Davido has not publicly responded to her statement.
