Former Arsenal stalwart Sol Campbell has strongly advised his old club to target and sign an experienced, older centre-half during the forthcoming January transfer window.
Campbell asserts that the current backup defenders at the club simply do not possess the necessary qualities of first-choice centre-backs William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.
Speaking about the specific profile of player Arsenal should look for in January, Campbell told Paddy Power:
“Who knows? Maybe an older centre-half who wants a six-month contract. “You can’t afford both of them [Gabriel and Saliba] out, you need at least one fit and playing now. “The other centre-backs are all top players, but they are not Saliba and Gabriel. “Arsenal can lose two players elsewhere on the pitch, but in defence, they miss Saliba and Gabriel’s experience.”
The club is currently navigating a defensive injury crisis, making depth a critical concern as they compete across multiple fronts.
