The Sokoto State Government has assured residents that no civilians were harmed during a recent security operation involving Nigerian and United States forces in parts of the state.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Director-General of Media and Publicity at Government House, Abubakar Bawa, said the coordinated air operation was carried out against identified terrorist enclaves in Tangaza Local Government Area as part of sustained efforts to dismantle bandit and terrorist networks operating along the North-West corridor.
According to the state government, the mission was carefully executed based on intelligence, with strict measures taken to avoid civilian casualties. Bawa noted that post-strike assessments by the joint security team were still ongoing to fully determine the impact of the operation.
He also addressed reports about unexplained objects discovered near Jabo community in Tambuwal Local Government Area, explaining that security agencies were conducting investigations and technical analysis to establish their origin and purpose.
The government reaffirmed its support for international security partnerships, describing collaboration between Nigeria and the United States as vital in addressing terrorism, banditry and other cross-border crimes affecting the region.
Residents were urged to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and continue providing credible information that could aid ongoing operations. The government also appealed to citizens to support the fight against criminal elements through prayers and collective vigilance.
