Nigerians across social media platforms have been reacting to circulating claims about Wunmi, the widow of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The reactions followed unverified rumours on X (formerly Twitter) suggesting that Wunmi recently welcomed a new child with another man. The claims surfaced about a month after Mohbad’s family publicly barred her from using their surname, further fuelling online speculation.
The rumour quickly gained traction and stirred controversy, with many users questioning its plausibility, especially given that Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, and investigations into his death are still ongoing. His body, according to family disclosures, remains in the morgue.
The renewed speculation has also revived public calls for a DNA test to determine the paternity of Liam, Wunmi’s son with the late singer, who was reportedly five months old at the time of Mohbad’s death. Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, had earlier requested a DNA test following allegations of infidelity made against Wunmi amid the circumstances surrounding his son’s death.
Reacting online, actor Stanley Ontop posted on Instagram with a sarcastic tone, questioning the timeline of the alleged childbirth and making remarks that drew mixed reactions from followers.
Other social media users also weighed in. While some criticised Wunmi and described the claims as inappropriate amid unresolved family disputes, others cautioned against rushing to conclusions, noting that the reports remain unconfirmed.
One X user, @callme_Riken, wrote that even if the rumour were true, moving on would not be unusual, adding that life does not pause indefinitely after loss. Another user, @djokaymegamixer, expressed scepticism, suggesting the story could be fabricated to drive online engagement.
However, some reactions took a harsher tone, drawing criticism from observers who warned against the spread of harmful narratives, especially in the absence of verified facts.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no official confirmation from Wunmi or credible sources regarding the alleged childbirth. The development highlights ongoing public interest in Mohbad’s case, while also underscoring the challenges of misinformation and speculation in Nigeria’s digital space.
Observers have continued to call for restraint, urging the public to rely on verified information as investigations into Mohbad’s death and related family matters remain unresolved.
