Liverpool manager Arne Slot says it would be unrealistic for the club to discuss a Premier League title challenge following their 3–0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The defeat leaves Liverpool in eighth place on the league table, prompting the Dutch manager to urge a shift in focus toward improving performances rather than chasing the top spot.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Slot said the team must prioritise consistent positive results before entertaining any talk of a title race.
“The last thing I should speak about is the title race. We have to focus on getting results, result after result, before we can even think about that,” he said.
He acknowledged City’s strong position and stressed that league standings are only meaningful after the midway point of the season.
“I’ve said many times that the best way to judge the table is after 38 games. The next best is after 19. We have to improve, that is obvious,” Slot added.
