Liverpool manager Arne Slot says his team should forget about any Premier League title ambitions for now and instead focus on fixing their form after Sunday’s bruising 3–0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
The loss leaves the Reds sitting eighth on the table, while City continue to climb, now just four points ahead of Liverpool.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Slot admitted there is no basis for title conversations at this stage.
“The last thing I should speak about is the title race. We have to focus on getting results,” he said.
“Result after result after result before we can even think about that. The reality is that we are eighth. One team is quite far ahead, although City is now four points away.
“I said last season, many times, the best way to judge the table is after 38 games. The next best way is to judge it after 19 games. The last thing we should be focusing on is the title race. We have to improve, that is obvious.”
Slot’s comments underline the pressure on Liverpool to steady their campaign as they look to recover from a sluggish start to the season.
