Nigerian musician Slimcase has voiced concern over what he described as the growing monotony in Afrobeats, saying the genre is gradually losing its excitement due to the excessive release of songs and albums.
The singer made his remarks in a post shared via his Instagram story, where he urged Afrobeats artists to take a step back and allow creativity to breathe.
According to Slimcase, the constant stream of new singles and albums from Nigerian artists has made the sound less enjoyable, as many musicians seem to be under pressure to stay relevant.
“Too many songs and albums, everyone is just rushing. Take a break and come back fresh, like Rihanna,” he advised, suggesting that artists should engage in other ventures before returning to music.
He further stated that the industry’s non-stop output is making the genre predictable. “Your sounds are getting boring because they’re coming too much in a year. It’s only God that is new every morning,” he added.
Slimcase concluded by warning that Afrobeats may gradually lose its charm if artists continue prioritizing quantity over creativity.
