Nigerian Afrobeats singer Skales has reacted to the criticism surrounding his recent testimony at Harvesters Church, admitting his first response was hasty but insisting his message was misinterpreted.
The singer had shared during the church service that his music career experienced a revival after his 2015 hit song Shake Body regained attention years later. According to Skales, the renewed interest was sparked by Barcelona teenage football star Lamine Yamal, whose public association with the track helped bring it back into the spotlight.
Following mixed reactions online, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), Skales acknowledged that his initial reply to critics lacked reflection. He explained that after reconsidering the backlash, he felt the need to clarify his position with a calmer and more thoughtful approach.
Skales stressed that faith expression is not limited to religious leaders or church pulpits. He noted that believers serve God in different capacities, including through professional careers such as music, sports, education, and filmmaking.
Defending his testimony, the singer referenced biblical teachings to support his view that sharing personal experiences of faith is valid and meaningful. He cited 1 Corinthians 12:28, emphasizing that different roles within society contribute to a larger spiritual purpose.
Reaffirming his stance, Skales said he remains unapologetic about publicly acknowledging his faith. He maintained that testifying about what God has done in his life is a personal conviction he will continue to uphold, regardless of public opinion.
The singer concluded by stating that while not everyone is called to minister from the pulpit, every believer has a distinct role to play, and no calling is lesser simply because it exists outside the walls of the church.
