Afrobeats singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has shared details of the physical and creative challenges she faced while working on her latest single, Where You Dey, featuring fellow artiste Chike.
The singer disclosed that she initially planned to release the track last year but was unable to complete it at the time due to health complications. She made the revelation in a series of posts on X, offering fans insight into the demanding process behind the song.
Simi explained that although she was excited when she first shared a snippet of the track, completing the song proved difficult as she battled illness and extreme fatigue. She said her condition affected her ability to work at full capacity, even during the recording of the snippet video.
Despite the challenges, Simi said she remained determined to see the project through. She revealed that Chike was her first and only choice for the collaboration, describing his contribution as exceeding her expectations. According to her, Chike promptly joined the project after returning from a trip, recording his verse shortly after arriving back in town.
The singer also spoke about the technical hurdles she encountered during post-production. She admitted struggling with mixing the song and eventually took on the task of mastering it herself, even though she described mastering as a process she does not enjoy.
Simi expressed disappointment that she missed her intended release timeline, noting that fans had already embraced the song and were eager for its official release. She added that she lacked the energy to promote the track as planned and could barely recall filming the accompanying video.
Reflecting on the experience, the singer said the song was created with deep commitment, resilience, and love, urging listeners to connect with it even if she could not give it the promotional push she desired.
Simi also used the opportunity to address critics who have suggested that marriage slowed her career, stating that Where You Dey stands as evidence of her continued dedication to music and her craft.
