Nigerian singer and songwriter Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has achieved her first-ever international certification as her hit single ‘Duduke’ was recently certified Gold in New Zealand for selling over 15,000 units.
The certification marks a major milestone in Simi’s career, highlighting the global appeal of the emotionally charged song that resonated with fans worldwide.
Released in 2022, ‘Duduke’ is a tender love song dedicated to Simi’s unborn child at the time. The music video, which featured the singer proudly displaying her baby bump, became a viral celebration of motherhood and self-expression.
To further engage her fans, Simi launched the popular #DudukeChallenge, encouraging listeners to create their own renditions and visual interpretations of the song, a trend that swept across social media platforms in multiple countries.
In an interview, Simi revealed that many fans fondly call her daughter, Adejare, “Duduke,” since she inspired the song. While she said the nickname isn’t offensive, she gently noted that she prefers people to refer to her daughter by her real name.
The Gold certification underscores Simi’s growing global recognition and reaffirms her status as one of Nigeria’s most soulful and influential artists.
