Afrobeats singer Simisola Kosoko, widely known as Simi, has shared her admiration for the resilience and distinct character of Nigerians, describing it as her favourite thing about the country.
Speaking on a recent episode of the 90s Baby Show, Simi highlighted the uniqueness of Nigerians, emphasizing that their energy and spirit cannot be replicated anywhere else.
“My favourite thing about Nigeria is just the spirit of Nigerians. You can’t replicate it,” she said. “Nobody else can be a Nigerian other than a Nigerian.”
The Joromi crooner noted that even in Hollywood, where African accents are often portrayed, Nigerian accents are rarely imitated because, according to her, “being a Nigerian doesn’t just come naturally, it feels like home.”
Despite her pride, the award-winning singer expressed concern about the challenges facing the country, adding that many Nigerians are leaving in search of better opportunities.
“That’s why I wish the country was better,” Simi said. “Because I feel like no one would want to leave if things were working.”
Simi’s comments resonate with many Nigerians who continue to express deep affection for their homeland while lamenting the economic and social issues driving mass emigration.
