A federal delegation led by Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has visited Maiduguri in the aftermath of the deadly attack on troops in Borno State, where he conveyed condolences on behalf of President Bola Tinubu following the assault on Nigerian Army personnel in Benisheikh.
The visit, which also involved officials of the Borno State Government, comes after coordinated militant attacks on military positions that resulted in the deaths of several soldiers, including senior officers.
During the visit, Shettima paid tribute to the fallen troops, describing their sacrifice as a painful reminder of the human cost of national security.
He said: “These men wore the uniform for all of us. They stood to protect our communities, our families, and the future of our children. Their courage reminds us that peace and security often come at a very heavy cost.”
The Vice President commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their continued sacrifices in the fight against insurgency in the North-East, assuring troops and residents of the Federal Government’s commitment to sustained support.
He stressed that criminal elements would find no safe haven under the current administration, adding that operational backing for security forces would continue.
The visit underscores renewed federal engagement in the security situation in the region, where Borno State remains a major hotspot for Boko Haram and ISWAP activities.
Through the condolence visit, Shettima also sought to boost troop morale and reinforce solidarity with communities affected by ongoing violence.
The Federal Government says it will continue to support frontline troops as efforts intensify to restore lasting peace in the North-East.
