Nigeria’s Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, has expressed confidence that under the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria is poised to achieve lasting peace and progress.
Shettima made the remarks on Friday during a special Juma’at Prayer held at the National Mosque, Abuja, marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day. The observance, held annually on January 15, honours the nation’s military personnel and commemorates those who have sacrificed their lives in service to the country.
“President Tinubu’s administration is committed to empowering the Nigerian Armed Forces to confront and overcome the security challenges facing our nation”, Shettima said.
The Vice-President highlighted the recent renaming of the day from the former Armed Forces Remembrance Day to Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, emphasizing that the change reflects its dual purpose: celebrating serving personnel while remembering fallen heroes.
Shettima also paid tribute to soldiers and other security personnel who have given their lives to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity, as well as the lives and property of citizens.
“We honour the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of our men and women in uniform. Their service ensures that Nigerians can live in peace and security”, he said.
The Vice-President concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting the military and strengthening national security as part of the broader agenda for national stability and development.
