Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday led a Federal Government delegation to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State to commiserate with victims of last Tuesday’s terrorist attacks on Nuku and Woro communities.
Shettima conveyed the determination of President Bola Tinubu to ensure the restoration of peace and tranquillity in the affected communities, assuring residents that all necessary security measures were already in place.
He disclosed that the President had ordered the deployment of a battalion of the Nigerian Army to Kaiama and directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency, to mobilise resources to support distressed communities.
“We are here at the behest of President Bola Tinubu to commiserate with you over the tragedy that befell Woro and Nuku communities,” Shettima said, describing the victims as peaceful residents devoted to their livelihoods and religious harmony.
He extended the condolences of the President and the Federal Government to families of those killed, stressing that while security strategies would not be fully disclosed, decisive actions were ongoing to stabilise the area.
“Please accept our heartfelt condolences. All hands are on deck to ensure peace and tranquillity are fully restored,” the Vice President assured.
Also speaking, Governor Babagana Zulum, Chairman of the North East Governors Forum, conveyed the forum’s condolences and offered prayers for the victims, urging hope and resilience.
Responding, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq commended the swift response of the Federal Government, confirming that troops and senior security officers were already deployed under Operation Savannah Shield.
Chairman of Kaiama Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Danladi, and the Emir of Kaiama, HRH Alhaji Mu’azu Shehu Omar, also expressed gratitude to the President and Vice President for the prompt intervention and deployment of security forces.
