Kaduna cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has clarified that recent claims of him being targeted by U.S. airstrikes are false, saying the reports stem from an old video about a past threat.
In a recent interview, Gumi explained that the viral video circulating online referred to a 2012 Boko Haram plot against his life, not any current threat. He emphasized that his life is safe, and he is living peacefully with his family.
“I never said I was targeted by the U.S. or anyone else”, Gumi said. “I am at home, living without fear, intimidation, or apprehension. The claims circulating online are false”.
The cleric recounted that in 2012, two Boko Haram operatives sent to kill him were killed when their own explosive device detonated near his home. He said his lecture on the incident had been misinterpreted, leading to the recent wave of misinformation.
Gumi also urged media outlets to retract the false reports and issue public apologies, stressing that he is a peaceful person and currently faces no threat to his life.
