Nigerian comedian and skitmaker Shank Comics has apologised for an old social media post in which he appeared to praise music mogul Diddy, amid renewed backlash online.
The post resurfaced recently, drawing criticism for being insensitive in light of serious allegations facing the American entertainer. In a clarification, Shank explained that the post was intended as a reference to a movie villain, but admitted it was careless and irresponsible.
“To clarify any misunderstanding: My post about Diddy was a misguided attempt at referencing a villain in a ‘movie’ and it was irresponsible. To be absolutely clear, I do not admire, support, or defend him in any way,” Shank wrote.
He further stressed that the allegations against Diddy are “horrific” and have no place in the entertainment industry or society, asserting that victims deserve justice. Shank also vowed to use his platform more responsibly going forward.
