Nigerian music star Shallipopi has stirred controversy online after advising men to steer clear of relationships and marriage, describing both as heavy financial burdens.
The singer shared his views on Monday in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter). According to him, men who do not come from wealthy families risk setting themselves up for hardship when they commit to relationships.
“The biggest financial mistake, when you and your papa nor dey the Top 10 list of richest people in Africa, you go cry bro. OS na financial mistake, Girlfriend na financial mistake, stay celibate,” Shallipopi wrote.
He went on to label relationships as “financial traps” and marriage as a “financial mistake,” urging men to focus on living within their means instead of taking on commitments that could strain their finances.
His comments have since sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some users agreed that relationships can be financially demanding, others accused the artist of promoting a one-sided view of love and partnership.
Shallipopi, known for his bold takes and street-inspired music, has often used his platform to share unconventional opinions, but this latest remark may be one of his most divisive yet.
