
Nigerian singer and songwriter Seyi Shay has reflected on her early working relationship with Wizkid, describing the Afrobeats superstar as a creative genius whose talent continues to inspire her.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the Irawo crooner shared insights into how their musical connection developed into a strong friendship and mentorship over the years.
Seyi Shay revealed that their collaboration extended beyond their popular joint single “Crazy”, as she also contributed background vocals to some of Wizkid’s early projects.
“I did Crazy with Wizkid. I featured him on the song, and he featured me on one of his songs. I also did some background vocals for a couple of his other songs. We became genuine friends,” she said.
Praising Wizkid’s artistry, Seyi Shay described him as “incredibly smart and talented,” recalling how his effortless creativity often left her amazed.
“I’ve seen him record while eating, and that was mind-blowing. He’s like a magician. I’m heavily attracted to people of extraordinary talent. My spirit connects with people that are inhumanly talented,” she said.
Beyond music, the singer noted that Wizkid also offered her guidance and advice on handling fame and the complexities of the entertainment industry.
“He used to advise me a lot and tell me how people behave in this industry,” she added.
