Popular comedian Seyi Law has responded sharply to Shehu Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, after he described President Bola Tinubu as a “drug baron.”
Shehu made the comment on X (formerly Twitter) while reacting to U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks describing Nigeria as a “disgraced country.” Trump had reportedly threatened military intervention in Nigeria, citing alleged persecution of Christians.
The statement sparked widespread debate online under the hashtag #DisgracedCountry, with Nigerians divided between outrage and self-reflection.
Weighing in, Shehu Abubakar said Nigerians had no reason to be offended by Trump’s statement, adding that the nation lost moral ground when it “announced a drug baron as president.”
“Why are some upset that Donald Trump called us disgraceful? When they announced a drug baron as our President, what do you call that? Prideful? I know it hurts our pride as a nation but we have to first look inwards and hold ourselves accountable before we accuse outsiders,” he wrote.
In a swift rebuttal, Seyi Law, who has been an open supporter of Tinubu, accused Shehu of hypocrisy, referencing corruption allegations that once trailed his father.
“This is coming from someone whose father was called a thief by his principal and indicted as a money launderer in the US. Someone whose father deleted his handler’s tweet about the extra-judicial killing of Deborah. Na really wa,” Seyi Law posted.
The exchange has reignited political tensions online, with supporters of both camps trading words across social media platforms.
