As last year ended, I started doing T’ai Chi, an ancient Chinese workout that I was told supports physical and mental health without breaking much of a sweat, or suffering with sore muscles later.
I love experimenting with things. So, there were no surprises that a few days later I was on YouTube opening one of the free sessions and T’ai Chi’ing my way to feeling great.
At first, for someone like me who prefers high intensity workouts (I have a very stubborn body type – the kind you have to hurl off a mountain side before it feels or shows any exercise impact) T’ai Chi felt like I was joking around.
It is a combination of gentle stretches, swaying movements of limbs and torso, with great concentration on breathing. I was surprised when, fifteen minutes in, I was actually sweating, yet feeling so relaxed and mellow I could have fallen asleep right there on my feet!
And when I was done, my body felt so…right and beautiful. The metabolism thrust is almost instant with T’ai Chi, and I knew without a doubt, it is something that can also make the sexual experience more beautiful, because it removes all kinks from your body, lowers blood pressure and improves blood circulation.
All important recipes when you want to cook up some pink elephants in the bedroom! When I was done, I read up on it, and indeed, those ancient Chinese found a one-stone-kill-all method of staying healthy.
I don’t know why I had not heard about T’ai Chi earlier! We already know the importance of good blood circulation to genital sensitivity and arousal. And the kind of relaxation T’ai Chi gives the body!
There I was, swaying and waving my arms in the mirror, staring at my own reflection with I guess what they call bedroom eyes! Not that I was aroused or anything, but I was that relaxed; I was battling to stay awake.
That kind of gentle energy is important in promoting mindfulness, lowering stress and calming the nervous system – all important for uninhibited sex. In fact, I think doing T’ai Chi simultaneously as a couple can have very rewarding consequences!
Because it harmonizes one’s body with one’s soul, women, who in a special way always need their minds to be in sync with what is happening in/to their bodies during lovemaking, will thank me at some point.
No, it is not just for women; T’ai Chi is good for both genders of all ages. Seniors can even practice sitting T’ai Chi, which is just as effective. Plus, it promotes flexibility. No more painful yelps when your spouse needs you to be more ‘bendy’ in bed.
In its gentle way, T’ai Chi pays attention to those muscles your heated aerobics session may have missed. Do you see that short session of cooling down/stretching that clients seek from instructors after a gruelling workout at the gym? Some of that is really T’ai Chi.
And you know how good that feels. Now imagine a workout that concentrates more on that kind of mindful, unrushed stretching, breathing and relaxation for several minutes. Golden. Try it. A session can be anywhere between ten minutes and an hour, depending on your needs.
