Gunmen reportedly stormed a village in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State on Friday night, killing seven people and injuring several others.
The attack comes amid rising insecurity in Plateau State, where banditry, communal clashes, and armed robbery have escalated in recent months. A similar incident occurred just days earlier in the Bum community of Jos South LGA, leaving seven people dead.
Director of Press and Publicity to the Qua’an-Pan LGA Executive Chairman, Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, confirmed the incident on Saturday. “The council chairman, Hon. Christopher Audu Manship, strongly condemns this senseless act of violence and is coordinating with security operatives to bring the perpetrators to justice”, he said.
Residents of the affected village expressed fear and called for increased military and police patrols to prevent further attacks. Some community members also reported that the gunmen moved in multiple vehicles, targeting homes indiscriminately.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement from the Plateau State Police Command, but local security sources said a joint task force comprising police, military and vigilante groups has been deployed to track the attackers and restore calm to the area.
Security analysts have warned that continued attacks in Plateau State threaten livelihoods, disrupt local farming and trade, and could inflame communal tensions if not swiftly addressed.
