Seven persons were injured on Tuesday when a storey building under construction collapsed along Oyemekun Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Eyewitnesses said construction workers were on site carrying out building work when the structure caved in at about 3:30 p.m., trapping several people beneath the rubble.
Videos from the scene showed sympathisers and passersby assisting in rescue efforts before emergency responders arrived.
Those rescued from the debris were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention, while the extent of their injuries could not be immediately confirmed.
The Ondo State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Sunday Olajide, who visited the site, said the state government would launch a full investigation to determine both the immediate and remote causes of the collapse.
Olajide warned developers against the use of substandard materials and stressed the importance of adhering strictly to building regulations and safety standards.
He also urged property developers to obtain all necessary permits and approvals before commencing construction projects.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Government has sealed off the affected construction site and vowed to take further action after the conclusion of investigations.
