At least seven people, including a park guard, have been killed in a violent bandit attack on Wawa community in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Local sources reported that armed assailants on motorcycles stormed the community on Thursday, targeting residents working on their farms. Six of the victims were recovered and buried on Friday, while the body of the Kainji National Park guard remains missing.
The Kainji National Park, which spans approximately 5,341 square kilometres, has become a growing security concern, with locals alleging that bandits and terrorists increasingly use the vast forest as a hideout.
This attack comes less than a month after 42 people were killed in Kasuwan Daji, also in Borgu Local Government Area, highlighting persistent insecurity in the region. As of this report, the Niger State Police Command has not yet released an official statement on the incident.
