Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has opened up about his unique approach to parenting, saying he finds joy in “stressing” his daughter as a playful way to strengthen their bond.
Speaking in an interview with NotJustOk Originals on YouTube, the musician shared that his happiest moments are spent at home with his daughter. But rather than letting her run the show, he said he prefers to “stress her first.”
“Most parents don’t realize that their kids stress them because they don’t stress the kids first,” Kuti explained. “These children think that because they are small, they can stress you. So I reverse it. I’m the stress in my child’s life, that’s my fun thing to do.”
The youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti added that when he’s not spending time with family, performing on stage gives him a similar thrill.
“The stage is where I have full control, just like at home,” he said. “I take the energy from the house to the stage. I’m the stresser, that’s me.”
Kuti’s humorous yet insightful take on parenting has drawn attention from fans, many of whom view his perspective as a fresh reminder that discipline and play can go hand in hand in raising confident children.
