The Senate, through its Committee on Appropriations, has tentatively scheduled March 17, 2026, for the final consideration and passage of the ₦58.472 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill.
This decision was announced following a special Senate session, where February 2 to 13, 2026, was approved for the committee-level review of budget estimates. A public hearing on the budget proposal has been scheduled for Monday, February 9, 2026.
Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, also revealed that an interactive session with key economic managers of the Federal Government, including Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun and Minister of Budget and National Planning Atiku Bagudu, will hold on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
The period February 16 to 23, 2026, has been earmarked for submission of reports on budget defense by various standing committee chairmen.
The Appropriations Committee will subsequently present its report to the Senate on March 17, paving the way for the bill’s passage.
Senator Adeola noted that while the Senate leadership had initially aimed to pass the budget by March 12, he successfully appealed for an additional week to allow for more thorough scrutiny of the massive expenditure plan.
To facilitate detailed examination, hard copies of the 2026 budget have been printed and distributed to the chairmen and members of the Senate’s standing committees.
