The Senate has approved the report of its Committee on Foreign Affairs and confirmed the appointment of three nominees as non-career ambassadors of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The report was presented during Tuesday’s plenary session by the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and representative of Niger North Senatorial District, Senator Sani Bello.
The nominees confirmed are Lateef Kayode Are from Ogun State, Aminu Muhammad-Dalhatu from Jigawa State, and Emmanuel Ayodele Oke from Oyo State.
Presenting the committee’s findings, Senator Bello disclosed that the nominees underwent a rigorous screening process and were found eminently qualified for diplomatic responsibilities. He noted that their credentials, experience, conduct, and overall performance met the standards required for international representation.
According to him, the nominees demonstrated a strong grasp of international relations and diplomacy, reflecting both depth of knowledge and practical exposure.
“The committee carefully and thoroughly screened the three nominees and is satisfied with their qualifications, character, experience, and general conduct,” Bello said. “They have displayed wide and in-depth knowledge of international diplomacy.”
He added that the committee unanimously recommended their confirmation and formally urged the Senate to approve each nomination.
Following the adoption of the report, the Senate confirmed the appointments through voice vote.
In his remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated the ambassadors-designate and expressed confidence in their ability to serve Nigeria with distinction, wishing them successful and impactful tenures in office.
