The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Bernard Doro as a minister following his screening during plenary on Thursday.
During his brief screening, which lasted less than 30 minutes, Doro pledged to build a humanitarian ecosystem that is “inclusive, impartial, and independent.” Satisfied with his qualifications and responses, the lawmakers asked him to take a bow and leave.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier transmitted a letter to the Senate seeking Doro’s confirmation as minister representing Plateau State, in line with Section 147 (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Doro’s nomination followed the appointment of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July.
With his confirmation, Doro is expected to be sworn in by President Tinubu in the coming days and may likely be assigned to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
