The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Barrister Sunday Marshall Katung, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Katung announced his decision in a statement on Saturday, saying the move was driven by a sincere desire to serve his constituents more effectively.
His defection comes less than 24 hours after the Federal High Court in Abuja halted the PDP’s planned 2025 national convention.

A New Chapter: A Message of Unity, Service, and Purpose
By Senator Sunday Marshall Katung
Dear Friends and Political Associates,
The past few weeks have been some of the most demanding yet deeply reflective moments of my public service journey. In that time, I have held extensive consultations with constituents, key stakeholders, family, friends, and political associates to arrive at a difficult but necessary decision: I have decided to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
If I have not been able to meet you personally, please accept my sincere apologies. The wide scope of these engagements made one-on-one conversations with everyone impossible. I value each of you, and I ask for your understanding and continued trust as we enter this new phase together.
This political realignment is not motivated by personal gain, but by a genuine commitment to ensure that the people of Kaduna South are better represented at the highest levels of decision-making—where the future of our communities is shaped. It also reflects the consistent calls from diverse segments of our constituency urging us to embrace this transition, particularly in light of the enthusiasm shown by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani to partner with us for transformative development.
I am convinced—and my brother, Hon. Daniel Amos, as well as colleagues from the Kaduna State House of Assembly making this journey with us, share this conviction—that the APC’s developmental strides across our senatorial district signal a sincere commitment to inclusion, equity, and sustainable progress.
The era of marginalization we experienced in the recent past is giving way to purposeful governance and constructive partnership. Our move is intended to ensure that these gains are not only preserved but expanded to reach even more communities within Kaduna South.
As I have always maintained, politics is dynamic. Alignments shift, but our shared vision, our sense of community, and our dedication to uplifting our people must remain constant. While political decisions can create tension, I appeal to friends, associates, and family who may be disappointed or disagree with this decision: let this not break relationships built on trust, loyalty, and years of shared experiences.
In the words of Thomas Jefferson: “I never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, or in philosophy as cause for withdrawing from a friend.”
Let us embrace that wisdom as we move forward. I remain open, accessible, and committed to dialogue.
Together, let us stay united in purpose, firm in hope, and focused on building a brighter future for the people of Kaduna South Senatorial District.
Barr. Sunday Marshall Katung
Senator, Kaduna South Senatorial District.
