As part of ongoing security reforms, the Nigerian Government has unveiled enhanced digital tools aimed at improving immigration monitoring and compliance.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this during the 2026 Sectoral Performance Review Retreat of the Ministry in Abuja, noting that the upgrades are designed to strengthen border management and enhance national security.
He explained that the deployment of modern systems by the Nigeria Immigration Service has improved record-keeping and data tracking, enabling authorities to monitor entry and exit movements more effectively.
According to the minister, the new infrastructure makes it possible to identify individuals who may have violated visa regulations, adding that enforcement will be carried out in line with established legal procedures.
Tunji-Ojo said the reforms reflect the government’s commitment to securing the country’s borders while ensuring compliance with immigration laws.
He also stressed the need for improved transparency and efficiency across agencies under the ministry, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, stating that public institutions must deliver services fairly and without corruption.
The minister added that ongoing reforms in correctional services aim to prioritise rehabilitation, with the goal of reducing repeat offences and promoting reintegration into society.
The announcement comes amid broader government efforts to modernise security operations and strengthen institutional accountability nationwide.
