Regulator cites powers under ISA 2025 as it strips commodity broker of capital market status and warns investors to cut ties……..
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has withdrawn the registration of Kensington Agro Trading Limited as a capital market operator, effectively barring the firm from operating within Nigeria’s capital market.
In a public notice issued on Saturday, the commission announced that the revocation takes immediate effect. No specific details were provided regarding the circumstances that led to the regulatory action.
Kensington Agro Trading Limited had been licensed to operate as a commodity broker/dealer and collateral manager in the Nigerian capital market.
“The Securities and Exchange Commission (‘the Commission’) hereby notifies the general public of the revocation of the registration of Kensington Agro Trading Limited as a capital market operator (Commodity Broker/Dealer and Collateral Manager) with immediate effect,” the notice stated.
According to the SEC, the decision was made pursuant to its statutory authority under Section 61(6) of the Investments and Securities Act (ISA) 2025, as well as Rule 34(1) of the SEC Rules and Regulations 2013 (as amended).
With the revocation now in force, the firm is no longer authorised to carry out any capital market-related activities in Nigeria.
The regulator has advised commodity exchanges, investors, commodity traders, and other stakeholders in the capital market ecosystem to immediately discontinue all dealings with the company.
The action marks the latest in a series of enforcement steps by the commission as it tightens oversight of the market. Just last week, the SEC suspended trading in the shares of Zichis Agro-Allied Industries Plc following what the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) described as “extraordinary price movements” in the company’s stock.
The back-to-back interventions signal a more assertive regulatory posture, as the commission moves to reinforce compliance and safeguard investor confidence in the Nigerian capital market.
