The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has suspended its National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, over allegations of financial misconduct, misappropriation of party funds, and gross abuse of office.
Gabam’s suspension was announced alongside that of the National Auditor, Clarkson Nnadi, and the National Youth Leader, Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu.
The development followed a resolution reached during the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Araba Aiyenigba, the party said the decision was made in line with Articles 19.1, 19.3(1), and 19.5 of the 2022 SDP Constitution (as Amended).
“The National Working Committee of the Social Democratic Party, in exercise of its constitutional powers, has suspended the following officers on grounds of a prima facie case of misconduct, financial misappropriation, malfeasance, and other violations of the party’s constitution,” the statement read.
The statement listed those affected as:
Shehu Musa Gabam – (Former National Chairman)
Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu – (Former National Youth Leader)
Clarkson Nnadi – (Former National Auditor)
According to Aiyenigba, the suspensions followed the adoption of the Disciplinary Committee’s report and a subsequent White Paper, which reviewed findings and recommendations on the allegations leveled against the suspended officials.
He added that the NWC had also approved additional administrative measures recommended in the White Paper to prevent future violations of the party’s internal rules and ethical standards.
Party Condemns Attempted Break-In at Secretariat
The SDP further disclosed that its NWC also deliberated on a separate incident involving an unlawful break-in at the party’s National Secretariat located at 17 Nairobi Street, Wuse II, Abuja.
According to the statement, some disgruntled and disloyal party members, identified as Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, Nuraddeen Bisalla, Solsuema Osaro, Ambo Ekpeyong, Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, Humphrey Unwukaeze, and Judith Israel Shuaibu, were accused of forcibly entering the secretariat in the early hours of Monday, July 28, 2025.
“These intruders were apprehended by law enforcement agents and found in possession of sensitive party documents and valuables carted away from the secretariat,” the statement noted.
The party said the suspects had since been charged to court by the Nigerian Police and are currently facing prosecution for their alleged involvement in the break-in and theft of party property.
The SDP reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, internal discipline, and accountability, warning that any member found engaging in acts capable of tarnishing the image or destabilizing the party would face strict disciplinary action.
