The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has cautioned members and the public against political actors misusing the Supreme Court judgment to create confusion and undermine the party’s leadership.
Nasarawa State Chairman of SDP and Secretary of the Forum of State Chairmen, Hon. Musa Danlami, stated in a release from Abuja that the Supreme Court ruling strictly addressed electoral matters arising from previously concluded by-elections and affirmed an earlier Court of Appeal decision.
“At no point did the Supreme Court rule on SDP’s national leadership. Any attempt to portray the judgment as a validation of leadership claims is a deliberate falsehood designed to mislead members and the public”, he said.
Danlami condemned what he described as a “forceful and theatrical invasion” of the National Chairman’s office by a self-appointed group, alleging that the move was politically motivated and encouraged by external actors exploiting security institutions.
“Legitimacy within the SDP derives solely from the party constitution. We urge all genuine members nationwide to remain resolute, vigilant, and unshaken. Do not be distracted by impostors or those attempting to hijack what they did not build”, he added.
He reiterated that the SDP, one of Nigeria’s oldest political parties, has a long-standing commitment to internal democracy, the rule of law, and institutional integrity. Despite attempts by some opportunists to misrepresent the Supreme Court ruling as endorsing their leadership claims, the state chairmen firmly rejected such moves.
“The SDP remains a party of law, order, internal democracy, and institutional integrity. We will defend the unity of the Social Democratic Party against every form of sabotage”, he concluded.
Danlami emphasised that unity and adherence to constitutional processes are central to the party’s operations and warned that any attempts to destabilise the SDP will be firmly resisted.
