Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, has criticised manager Ruben Amorim for his handling of young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, suggesting the England international may need to leave Old Trafford to save his career.
Scholes expressed frustration after Amorim insisted that while Mainoo is good enough to start, he still prefers Casemiro in United’s midfield. The former Red Devils midfielder shared Amorim’s comments on Instagram and delivered a blunt assessment of the situation.
“The kid is being ruined, not being played in a team that can’t control a game of football,” Scholes wrote.
“Hate seeing home grown players leave but it’s probably best for him now, enough is enough.”
Scholes’ remarks come amid growing concern among fans about Mainoo’s reduced role under Amorim, despite being one of the club’s standout performers last season.
The 19-year-old has struggled for minutes this campaign, even as United continue to battle inconsistencies in midfield—a situation Scholes believes is harming his development.
Amorim, earlier this week, maintained that Mainoo remains a key player in his plans, though the manager reiterated that Casemiro currently offers more experience and balance to his lineup.
Mainoo’s future at Manchester United is now generating intense debate, with Scholes’ comments adding to rising pressure on Amorim as the club continues to navigate a difficult season.
