Khalid bin Salman Al Saud, the Defence Minister of Saudi Arabia, has urged Iran to exercise caution and avoid what he described as potential “miscalculation” following a series of missile and drone attacks in the Gulf region.
The warning came amid rising tensions after multiple aerial attacks targeting strategic locations in Saudi Arabia, including facilities believed to host U.S. military personnel and key energy installations.
Saudi defence authorities reported that several missile launches aimed at Prince Sultan Air Base, located southeast of Riyadh, were successfully intercepted and destroyed.
Authorities also confirmed that drone attacks targeting the Ras Tanura Refinery — one of the world’s largest oil processing sites — were thwarted earlier in the week.
According to official statements, Saudi forces also intercepted approximately 17 drones targeting the Shaybah Oil Field near the border with the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, two drones were reportedly neutralised east of Riyadh.
In a social media post following a meeting with Pakistan’s military leadership, Prince Khalid stated that both sides discussed the Iranian attacks and explored measures to prevent further escalation.
“We emphasised that such actions undermine regional security and stability and expressed hope that the Iranian side will act with wisdom and avoid miscalculation,” he said.
The developments come amid continuing hostilities in the Gulf following military strikes involving Iranian-linked forces and Western and Israeli interests, further heightening concerns over regional stability.
