Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has dismissed claims that she accepted a romantic proposal from a dispatch rider who publicly professed his feelings for her.
In a statement shared via Instagram, the actress said her interaction with the man was misunderstood. According to her, she merely responded out of compassion to encourage him, not to begin a relationship.
Martins explained that her gesture was intended to affirm his dignity and self-worth, regardless of his financial or social status.
“I only extended my hand in love for humanity towards him to remind him that he’s worthy of love regardless of his current status,” she wrote.
She stressed that she upholds firm personal standards in relationships and would not compromise them. The actress described herself as principled, adding that she values respect, loyalty and submission in a partner, qualities she believes must be earned by a responsible provider.
“I am not the type that dates low, and I can’t fix any man to fit into my standards,” she stated, urging the public to stop spreading what she called false narratives.
Martins also addressed speculation about her marital status, stating that she is single and not actively seeking marriage.
Her clarification followed claims by the rider that he lost his job after expressing his feelings for her. In response, the actress shared screenshots of their chats, asserting that he was cautioned for what she described as disrespectful conduct, not dismissed from his job.
She maintained that her intention was to correct inappropriate behaviour, not to cause harm.
While wishing the rider well, Martins made it clear that she is not romantically involved with him and asked the public to refrain from misrepresenting the situation.
