Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has formally assented to Lagos State’s largest-ever budget, authorising ₦4.44 trillion in spending for 2026.
The governor signed the 2026 Appropriation Law on Monday during a brief ceremony at the Conference Room of Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, with top officials in attendance, including Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat, members of the State Executive Council, Head of Service Mr Bode Agoro, lawmakers, and other senior stakeholders.
The Lagos State House of Assembly had passed the budget earlier in January, clearing the way for the governor’s approval. Named the “Budget of Shared Prosperity”, the plan reflects the state’s commitment to inclusive growth, economic development, and equitable delivery of public services.
Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the spending framework is guided by four strategic pillars: placing people at the centre of governance, expanding modern infrastructure, stimulating economic growth, and strengthening institutions. These priorities are fully aligned with the state’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ development agenda, which continues to shape policy and public investment decisions.
“Our mission remains clear: to eradicate poverty and build a Lagos that works for all.
“Our vision guides every fiscal decision we make, to deliver a Greater Lagos where shared prosperity is not just an aspiration, but a reality felt by every resident”, Sanwo-Olu said.
While presenting the appropriation bill to lawmakers in November 2025, the governor emphasized that the budget is designed to ensure that the benefits of development reach all communities across Lagos, strengthening both social and economic opportunities for residents.
