Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unveiled a special 10% discount on Eko Rice and Eko Rice Classic to commemorate the 2025 World Food Day celebration in Lagos State.
The initiative, themed “Mr. Governor’s Eko Rice Special Discount for World Food Day,” will take place on Thursday at the Police College Parade Ground, Ikeja. According to a statement shared on the Lagos State Government’s official X handle, the offer is designed to make quality, home-grown rice more affordable for residents while celebrating Lagos’ strides in food production.
“In celebration of World Food Day, Mr. Governor is offering a special 10% discount on the sale of Eko Rice. Join us as we celebrate food systems and enjoy our high-quality rice at an affordable price,” the statement read.
The World Food Day celebration in Lagos is being coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, led by Commissioner Abisola Olusanya, and includes a week-long lineup of events. Activities kicked off on Wednesday with a sensitisation road walk to highlight the state’s achievements in agriculture and encourage residents’ participation in sustaining food security.
Olusanya emphasized that while Lagos is not traditionally seen as an agrarian state, the Sanwo-Olu administration has redefined its role in Nigeria’s agricultural space through strategic investments and innovation.
“Under Governor Sanwo-Olu, Lagos has demonstrated that food production and sustainability are possible even within an urban landscape. We want young people to take ownership of the agric space and celebrate those ensuring food security for all,” she said.
This year’s global theme, “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future,” highlights the importance of collaboration in building sustainable food systems and promoting healthy diets. Lagos, through its five-year Agricultural and Food Systems Roadmap, is targeting 40 per cent food self-sufficiency by 2025.
