Lagos State has promised sustained backing for the armed forces, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu highlighting the state’s ongoing support during the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
Speaking at the parade and wreath-laying ceremony, the governor, represented by his Deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, commended the dedication and sacrifices of military personnel, emphasizing that the state government is committed to providing the resources and environment they need to perform their duties effectively.
“Every year, Lagos State supports the armed forces, and we remain ready to do more. The men and women of our military make enormous sacrifices to keep our nation secure, and they deserve our continued backing”, the governor said, urging officers to maintain their commitment to protecting lives and property despite the challenges they face.
Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Legion, Akeem Wolimoh, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his consistent support, noting that he had contributed ₦125 million over the past two years to the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day and donated 500 bags of 25kg rice, set for distribution to veterans in March 2026.
The ceremony featured top officials laying wreaths, including the Deputy Governor (represented by Secretary to the State Government – Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin), Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa (represented by Jubril Abdulkareem), Chief Judge Justice, Kazeem Alogba, representatives of the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force, the Oba of Lagos, the widow of a fallen hero, and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh.
