Kenya’s Sacco regulator has raised the alarm over rising hacking threats targeting cooperatives and members’ accounts ahead of the upcoming long weekends and Christmas holidays, amid a surge in mobile banking heists.
The Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (Sasra) warned that cybercriminals have developed a pattern of striking when Saccos are operating with minimal staff, leaving digital banking systems more vulnerable to theft.
Cyber fraudsters are increasingly deploying malware to steal banking credentials from unsuspecting customers as they log into their accounts on mobile phones.
